May 2018 Family Newsletter

We hope everyone enjoyed some fun and relaxing days off over Easter!

The year is moving fast and it’s hard to believe next month at the end of June we will already be half way through the year.

In this months newsletter and throughout May it is all about expanding. We are expanding Storypark and Australian Bush Kindy through the younger age groups. Our rooms have expanded to be full on some days. Our Pre-prep room yesterday alone had 3 new friends join the Parkside Family.

Our Easter Vacation Care has been busy for our school -aged children. Their highlights were a trip to the Wood Museum, the Gympie Jungle and exploring one of the old trains At the Mary Rattler Museum. All children enjoyed our Easter Hat parade and, of course, the Easter Egg Hunt at the centre. Now it’s already May and we have more fun things planned for our Parkside children! Check out our Events calendar below.

April was also a day where we get to remember on ANZAC day our troops from the past and current, serving to protect our great country. Our children created artwork and letters and sent them off along with food packages donated by our families.

We want to give a warm welcome to the new members who have recently joined the Parkside Family. We are so pleased that you chose Parkside to educate and care your precious children.

Storypark Rolling Out!

With Storypark being successfully rolled out and functioning well in the Pre-prep room all remaining rooms will see Storypark being rolled out through May. The aim is to have all rooms using Storypark by the end of June.

What is Storypark?

Storypark is a way of capturing your child’s learning and making it available for you anywhere anytime in a private online community.

Whether you are at home or work during the day you can see what your child has been up experiencing and all the fun they are having from your phone, tablet or computer.

To find out more you can go to the Storypark website here or talk to one the Parkside Team.

Recipe Collection

You may have received an email over the last month asking for your favourite family recipe. We are still collecting recipes for a small booklet and hope to get a delicious collection of yummy recipes from all over the world representing our Parkside Family and their diverse cultures. Please send an e-mail with your special recipe to or pass it on to Gabi in the office!

Parkside Early Learning Centre is the first and only Child Care Centre or Kindergarten in Gympie to run Australian Bush Kindy. Following on from the success of Bush Kindy in our Pre-prep program we are now expanding to the younger age groups. Keep an eye on our Facebook page over May and June for more adventures in the park next door.

Please note, because of safety, children that do not bring a hat, shoes and drink bottles will not be able to attend Bush Kindy or go into the park next door.

Referring Family & Friends

If one of our Parkside Families refer us to one of their friends or families as a thank you we give a $100 gift voucher. If you have recently referred anybody please let us know. If you know of anybody who is looking for high quality child care and education we would love it if you send them out way.

Some of the Parkside Families receiving their $100 gift vouchers. Thanks so much guys for the referrals and enjoy the vouchers.

Child Care Subsidy Package

On 2 July 2018, the Federal Government will replace the Child Care Benefit (CCB) and Child Care Rebate (CCR) with a single means-tested subsidy, known as the Child Care Subsidy (CCS).

It is important that all families undertake the required transition steps by 2 July in order to receive ongoing subsidies from Centrelink. Everyone would have received in the post a letter from Centrelink outlining the steps they need to take. You can find out more information here.

The Parkside Team is also busy undertaking all the necessary changes so we can continue to operate once the changes come in. We’ll be sending out further communications in the coming weeks so stay tuned.

Policy Update

Over March and April we reviewed and updated our policies with the help of families and Parkside Educators. Most policies had only minor updates to make them clearer in their wording. However, after last winter’s long lasting sickness period, we have considered parent input and needed to update our policy regarding the return of previously unwell children. This is to protect all families from sickness and disease. We will now enforce stricter exclusion periods. We request that any child send home feeling ill, had a fever or has had vomiting/diarrhoea will need to stay home for a minimum period of 24 hours. If your child feels better sooner we will request a doctor’s clearance. Please refer to policy QA2 – p20. This change will take apply as of May, 11th 2018.
